For nearly a decade (October 1993-April 2002), this eclectic literary periodical dedicated to poetry appeared in a variety of shapes and sizes. I always felt like the quality and diversity of the poetry I accepted wasn't done justice by my own publishing skills, energy, funds, scheduling, distribution, etc. That changed to a large extent when an old friend Chris Sawyer (who had his own zine called Ingin the Ooh) started helping out with the technical issues: the format was more professional, the routine was more consistent, and the magazine was, on the whole, a lot better. I owe Chris.

When Chris moved to Arizona, I couldn't keep it together, for a variety of good and bad reasons. I managed one last issue—great poems, terrible package—and hung it up, hoping that I could resurrect it one day.

Now, after a four year hiatus, it's coming back. I reached out to two old DC friends—Adam Parez and Mark Fitzgerald—who know more than I do about the nuts and bolts of publishing, and they've graciously donated their time, energy, and skills to 5G's rehab. We've been slowly collecting poems since December 2006, and intend to start publishing five-poem monthly installments online starting January 2008. In this new format, in addition to poetry, we envision publishing reviews, essays, fiction, and artwork. However, at present, we are only accepting unsolicited poetry; for now, submissions for all other genres are by invitation only.
